The purpose of the USAID Páramos and Forests Activity is to support Colombia in the implementation of its Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Uses (AFOLU) related climate change mitigation goals, while strengthening community-based sustainable development initiatives in the context of a post peace agreement scenario.
The Activity will i) support the sustainable implementation of the existing USAID BioREDD+ /REDD+ portfolio (8 projects), ii) deliver tangible and sustainable results on the implementation of a results-based payment system for reduced carbon emissions in strategic high mountain ecosystems (i.e. Páramo, high Andean forest (bosque andino) and wetlands); and iii) provide targeted institutional and policy support to the Government of Colombia (GOC) towards achieving its climate change goals in the AFOLU sector.
